This week I have been sitting with a question that keeps returning to me.
Why do we so often wait for the big change — the dramatic shift, the unmistakable sign — when the quiet miracle is already moving around us, waiting to be noticed?
I have been reflecting on this partly because of conversations with some of my Reiki students. They come to me after their training full of openness and hope. And then, a few weeks later, they tell me: “I don’t feel much. I keep waiting, but nothing is happening.”
And I understand. I really do. Because I have been living a version of this myself.
When the Mind is Too Full to Notice
This past week, I made a significant decision — shifting the main base of my practice to HomeWellness in Primrose Hill. A good change. A chosen change. And yet the moment I made it, something in me felt… unsettled.
Not wrong. Just full. My mind was running in many directions — the practicalities, the transition, changes in my family life too. I kept waking up with too many thoughts and not enough ground beneath my feet.
So I did what I try to teach others to do. I slept in. I sat quietly. I came back to my body.
And that is when I remembered: this is exactly what gets in the way of the miracle.
When we are in our heads — overwhelmed, overthinking, bracing for what comes next — we lose the thread that connects us to the subtle world. The energy that is always flowing. The small gifts that arrive each day, quietly, without announcement.
What My Reiki Students Taught Me
When my students say they don’t feel anything, they are often waiting for Reiki to come to them. They imagine the energy will arrive like a wave, and all they have to do is sit in its path.
But energy — whether we call it Reiki, chi, prana, or simply life force — does not work like that.
It responds to connection. To intention. To presence.
You have to come home to yourself first — body and mind — and then you will notice that the energy has been around you always.
This is not about effort or straining to feel something. It is about arriving. Landing in your body. Quieting the noise of the mind long enough to sense what is already there.
A full breath. A warmth in the hands. A moment of unexpected stillness. A shift you almost missed.
These are the miracles. Small, yes. But real.
The Full Moon Reminds Us
Tomorrow — 2nd May — brings us a full moon. 🌕
In many traditions, the full moon is a time of illumination. Not because it creates new light, but because it reveals what was already present in the darkness.
The moon does not force you to see anything. It simply shines. Whether you notice depends on whether you look up.
I find this such a tender metaphor for healing work. The capacity for calm, clarity, and connection is not something I give you. It is already within you. What we do together — in a session, through a practice, through a moment of honest reflection — is simply clear away what has been blocking the light.
This week, under this full moon, I invite you to pause and ask:
What tiny miracle have I been too busy to notice?
Maybe it is a conversation that surprised you. A moment in nature that stopped you mid-step. A feeling of ease after a long period of effort. A relationship that has quietly shifted for the better.
These are not small things. These are the real things.
Is Your Body Holding What Your Mind Cannot Name?
This is often where I meet people — in that in-between space. Feeling unsettled but not sure why. Overwhelmed but carrying on. Waiting for something to shift, but not quite knowing where to begin.
This is exactly where therapies like Reflexology, Craniosacral Therapy, Deep Integrated Massage, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) can help. Not by forcing a change, but by giving your nervous system the safety and space to settle. When the body finds its ground, the mind follows. And that is when you start to notice the things that were always there.
Here is what one of my recent clients shared after a session:
“I came in feeling completely scattered and overwhelmed. I left feeling like myself again — calm, clear, and surprisingly lighter. I don’t know exactly what shifted, but something did.”
That is the miracle. Not dramatic. But real.
