Life is always moving. Perhaps healing is learning to move with it.
Have you ever looked back at your week and realised that what seemed like ordinary moments had quietly changed you?
That was my week.
I exchanged healing with another therapist.
I visited my chiropractor, who gently helped my body find a little more alignment.
I finally booked my ticket to Japan for next March, something I’ve been thinking about for a while.
Then, quite unexpectedly, I discovered that Ken Honda, whose books and teachings have inspired me for many years, would be in London this weekend. Without much hesitation, I booked a place at his dinner event.
One of my Reiki Level 1 students sent me such a heartfelt email after completing the course. Reading her reflection reminded me why I love teaching Reiki.
Another Reiki student reached out because she needed a little support, and it was a joy to help her reconnect with her own practice.
At home, I noticed something changing too.
I quietly let go of an old belief I had been carrying about my husband and my son.
And yes… even our dishwasher decided it had reached the end of its own journey!
Looking back, none of these moments seemed connected.
Yet together, they told the story of my week.
They reminded me of one of my favourite Japanese expressions:
一期一会 (Ichigo Ichie)
It is often translated as:
“One time, one meeting.”
Every meeting only happens once in exactly the same way.
This conversation.
This treatment.
This sunrise.
This goodbye.
This version of yourself.
It will never happen again in quite the same way.
That doesn’t make life sad.
It makes life incredibly precious.
Life is always moving
This week reminded me of something else.
When something leaves, something else often arrives.
Sometimes we notice it immediately.
Sometimes we don’t realise until much later.
An old belief leaves.
A new understanding arrives.
One chapter quietly closes.
A mentor unexpectedly appears.
A student grows in confidence.
The body lets go of tension.
The heart creates space for something new.
People come.
People go.
Opportunities come and go.
Dreams change.
Relationships evolve.
Even different parts of ourselves come and go.
Perhaps this is exactly how life is meant to be.
Healing isn’t a straight line
People often imagine healing as reaching a destination.
“I’ll be healed when…”
“I’ll be happy when…”
“I’ll relax when…”
But after many years of working with people, I don’t think healing works like that.
Healing isn’t a straight line.
It isn’t even a circle.
To me, healing feels much more like a spiral.
We revisit familiar situations.
We meet similar emotions.
Old fears sometimes reappear.
The body reminds us of something we thought we had already dealt with.
At first it can feel as though we haven’t made any progress.
But when we look more closely, we realise something beautiful.
We are not the same person meeting that experience.
Each time we return, we bring a little more awareness.
A little more kindness.
A little more wisdom.
The spiral keeps expanding.
And so do we.
This is why I love my work
Whether I am offering massage, Japanese Facial Therapy with Buccal Massage, Reflexology, Reiki, EFT or teaching Reiki Level 1, every session is unique.
Even when I see the same client every month, they are not the same person they were four weeks ago.
Life has moved.
Their body has changed.
Their heart has changed.
Their story has changed.
Every treatment begins with listening.
Not only to the symptoms.
But to the whole person in front of me.
That is why I never believe in a “one size fits all” treatment.
Every session is 一期一会.
A unique meeting.
A unique conversation.
A unique opportunity to support someone exactly where they are.
Reiki Level 1 – A practice you carry for life
One of the greatest joys this week was reading my student’s reflection after completing Reiki Level 1.
She reminded me that Reiki is much more than learning a technique.
It becomes a lifelong relationship with yourself.
A daily self-healing practice.
A quiet way of returning to your own centre, especially on the days when life feels noisy or uncertain.
That is also why I created my Reiki Reset sessions—to gently support my Reiki students after the course, helping them stay connected with their practice and build confidence in using Reiki in everyday life.
A gentle reflection
As you move through this week, perhaps ask yourself:
- Who has quietly changed me this year?
- What belief am I ready to thank and let go of?
- What unexpected opportunity has recently appeared?
- What part of me is slowly growing?
- How can I fully appreciate today, knowing it will never happen in exactly the same way again?
Perhaps healing isn’t about holding on.
Perhaps it is learning to meet each moment with an open heart.
Because this moment, too, is 一期一会.

A note for those outside London
Many of you know that travelling is one of my greatest passions.
If you’re outside London—or even outside the UK—and feel called to learn Reiki from me or receive my hands-on treatments, please get in touch.
If our timing and locations align, I’m always happy to explore bringing my work to you. Sometimes that may even be through a gentle exchange, allowing healing to travel beyond my treatment room.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for being part of this journey.
With warmth,
Naomi Sato 🌿
