Sometimes, We Just Need to Come Back to the Basics

A glass of water in soft natural light representing simplicity, hydration, and holistic wellbeing.

A season to review, adjust, and begin again

This time of year carries a naturally slower rhythm — more space, more connection, and a quiet sense of new beginnings.

With Easter, family time, and a new school term beginning for my family in Japan, it really does feel like a season of change.

A moment to pause, review, adjust, and begin again.

This week, I found myself reflecting more on wellbeing — not only my own, but within my family too.

When life slows down a little, we begin to notice things more clearly.

For me, it was noticing my son’s skin, and deciding to finally take a step I had been thinking about for a while — to seek kinesiology support for him.

It reminded me that when something shows up in the body, it may not just be surface-level.

In Chinese medicine, the skin speaks

The skin is closely connected to three key systems:

The Lung
Relates to what we take in — through breath, environment, and everything that surrounds us.
When we are overloaded or unable to process what we absorb, it can show up on the skin.

The Small Intestine
Helps us sort — discerning what is right for us and what is not, both physically and energetically.

The Large Intestine
Supports letting go — releasing what the body no longer needs.
When this process is not flowing well, what should be released can sometimes show up elsewhere.

When these systems are out of balance, the skin is often one of the first places it becomes visible.

Back to the basics

At the same time, this experience reminded me of something simple.

Not everything needs to be deeply emotional.

Sometimes the body is asking for better support through the basics — hydration, nutrition, and regularity.

I noticed simple patterns, like not drinking enough water and not having regular bowel movements.

Small things, but with a bigger impact than we often realise.

It’s always worth returning to the basics first, before looking for something more complicated.

The gut and the mind

We also often forget how closely the gut and the mind are connected.

When we feel stressed or overwhelmed, digestion is often affected.
And when digestion is out of balance, it can influence how we feel mentally and emotionally.

Supporting the gut is not only about digestion — it can also bring more clarity and calm to the mind.

A gentle reflection

If something is showing up in your body right now — skin, digestion, tension, or tiredness — you might pause and ask:

— Am I supporting my body with the basics?
— Am I drinking enough water?
— Am I nourishing myself well?
— Is my digestion working as smoothly as it could be?
— What might need a small adjustment?

Sometimes even a small shift can begin to change how we feel.

How I work with you

In my sessions, I support you in gently reconnecting with your body and understanding what it may be asking for — whether that is physical, emotional, or a combination of both.

Rather than focusing only on the surface, we listen more deeply: to what your body is taking in, how it is processing, and what it may need to release.

From there, we work together toward balance in a way that feels right for you.

Sessions are available:

Triyoga Camden — Saturdays
HomeWellness — Tuesdays

Please contact me directly to book. Payment is required in advance to secure your space.

Sometimes having a dedicated space to pause and receive support makes all the difference.

Take care 🌿
